Since I have done some reviews of the lineup Harley Davidson is offering for the 2010 year I decided to ask some Harley enthusiast what model would be their ideal dream. Most know that I like many motorcycles and do not limit myself to just one manufacturer. Having been around motorcycles most of my 49 years I have had the privilege of being introduced to many. Having friends that have worked in the motorcycle industry, started their own companies and my dad being one of the original owners of Progressive Suspension I have been surrounded by a vast amount of influence. Why I never ended up working in this industry is beyond me. As you can see I have been immersed into the motorcycle culture for many years. Then top it off with having raced in the desert for 18 years I think I have learned a few things. When I write I tend to write about Harley's since they are all some will talk about. In some ways I feel for them since they can’t seem to pull away from Harley ownership. But there are those that like trucks and all they ever buy is the same make every time they purchase a new one. Go figure. There is a heck of a lot more different motorcycles out there than there are trucks. To get back to the point of this hub the Harley that a few of my guy friends talked about was the Rocker C and the Softail Deuce. Since I do not know much about the Rocker C I set out to find out what the deal was with this particular Harley Davidson that so intrigued my fellow riders.
Softail Rocker C
When I first saw the bike I could tell why it appealed to some of the guys I ride with. It wasn’t my flavor of bike but still was striking to look at. The rear suspension area is reminiscent of a vintage hardtail frame with a wide tire on the back. The solo seat gives it a look that flows nicely with this bike and has a pillion seat for a passenger. Though this seat would not be comfortable for very long and your passenger would be complaining within minutes. That is why I always tell women learn to ride so you are not stuck on the back. Not all guys are going to go out and buy a comfy bike just for you to be comfortable. I wouldn’t even do that. If there is no room for you, go get your own motorcycle or stay home. The front end on this bike is raked out to give it that chopper look. This motorcycle is eye catching and leaves a lasting impression as it heads down the road.

Well , I own a Rocker . To say I'm honored to have her wouldn't do either one of us much justice. It's more than that , I'm honored. There's alot of machines out there , but there's very few that leave the impression that it just may have a spirit . It's hard to explain . Partly , it's that American Ironworker's decal . Mostly , it's all those "first time evers" & the " I'll never forget that as long as I live " memories . I guess I can't really explain it , but it is what it is and I like it .
Dale, You are so right. It's true in a lot of scenarios like I stated above. The first time I rode a 1200 Sporty I did not like it. I had been racing dirt bikes and for a street bike CBR. I also have been riding for almost 40 years and there really has never been a bike that put me off more than the Sporty. Thought I was going to dump it every time I went around a corner, and just way to bulky and top heavy. I was also frustrated because I like something about every bike I have ever ridden. But I shouldn't be to hard on myself cause it took 35 years for it too happen. The Rocker C is a different type of ride even coming from having ridden Harley's. This relationship may take a few weeks or even a few months to warm up. It all depends how attentive you are.

I've owned about 20 Jap bikes and now own the Rocker. I love it! Looks, rides, and sounds great. Mine has the rear suspension lowered so you have to watch those potholes, Ha :)

It looks a bit smoother than other Harleys, maybe it's the aerodynamics, just doesn't look as rough and ready as they should be. Still, I would and in black please.

Got my Rocker in Feb. It's my first bike, so while I can't really compare how it rides/handles, it suits me well. Lots of compliments from people riding very different types and makes of bikes. By the way, the trick seat is cool, but I've switched to a Danny Gray which is more comfortable, fits the look better and gives me a little more leg room. I couldn't be happier.
One should ride one before taking a shot at a bike they have never swung their leg over. Also if you have been riding a Honda CBR, or a lighter more nimble motorcycle the first time you get on almost any Harley it will not feel right. Once after a short ride on a Harley for the first time I said, no way am I going to ride that thing. But I gave it another shot, went our for a few hours and by the time I got home didn't even notice the issues I was having when I first rode the bike.

Who wants to sit astride a 1500cc stationary engine that should be driving a small mill of some sort. I like a rev range to choose from and a motor that doesn't lock the back wheel on hard changes!

Harleys are not motorcycles, they are two wheeled tractors that handle like a block of flats!
I love Harley but at the place where I'm from, this is always out of reach for the average citizen. Taxes and tariff are so high.

This bike isn't my cup of tea but I would say it looks better in person. Some of the guys I ride with love this bike. Beauty in the eye of the beholder. I also like that Harley has made an effort in promoting women to ride.
I'm not a fan of Harley's not because of what the company's history represents, they have done too much for the motorcycle industry to ignore that, but because of how many riders have turned into a status symbol. I can easily see the appeal, many are pieces of art but this one I actually do not like at all. I do not feel that it really has that classic Harley feel. Great hub, though, and thumbs up and telling the women to ride their own!!

Made in Japan assembled in America? I love Harley's but if I had a choice it would be the German built and assembled BMW. While living in Europe I got hooked on these.
From the Harley Davidson Co.- 1935 The Japanese motorcycle industry is founded as a result of Harley-Davidson licensing blueprints, tools, dies and machinery to the Sankyo Company of Japan. The result is the Rikuo motorcycle.
While I was staioned at McGuire Air Base back in the 80's , I recall the fued between Ronald Reagan's attempt to save Harley as the Democratic Congress fought against tariffs on foriegn large engine cyles. The lawfirm Patton & Blow was headed by Warren Christopher and Ron Brown which represents foriegn companies dumping products on America. They later beacame big shots in the Clinton White House.
1983 Harley-Davidson successfully petitions the International Trade Commission (ITC) for tariff relief, which is granted April 1, 1983. The tariff, scheduled to end five years later, is placed on all imported Japanese motorcycles 700cc or larger as a response to Japanese motorcycle manufacturers stockpiling inventories of unsold motorcycles in the United States.

Looks of Rocker C are deadly, i loved the blue metallic color here. Simply gorgeous. HD is the best in looks and power.
Around here all you see is Harleys. This bike for me is not one of my favorites but many of my guy friends that are into HD like this one.
I gave up on Harleys a while back because aroung here I did not fit in with that crowd. I do like the look, feel and sound of most Harleys but this one leaves me cold.

Lot's of interesting comments. I am a proud owner of a 2010 Flame Blue Rocker. I personally intalled Vance and Hines short shots pipes and a K&N Heavy breather. I have 40 years old and have been riding bikes since I was 8, my first was a 79 YZ80. I have owned many bikes since, my favorites have been the Yamaha650s and the 07CBR600, and the YZF426. I have ridden many more bikes and never really cared for the Harleys I had a chance to ride. The Rocker I must say is an entirely different animal! This bike is far and away the best ride ever! I know it has to do with the growl and the torque but there is something about the balance and maybe the fat tire in the back that makes this bike so amazing to ride. Maybe it's the rake of the forks, it probably is the whole package, fat rear tire, rake of the forks, roar of the torquey engine, weight, looks. At first I was turned off by the gap between the rear fender and the seat, it has since grown on me. It's got funk and funk is good! Sure there are faster bikes out there, there are more classic bikes and more comfortable bikes and dual sports and dirt bikes, all different sorts of bikes that specialize in this and that. I have ridden the Triumph Thunderbird and BMW 1000s. Right now there is not a bike out there that I would trade my Rocker for. It is the whole package. It has enough speed, handling that puts a grin on my face, acceleration that is very satisfying especially with the roar. Head turning looks, solid feel. And there is something nostalgic about it. It reminds me of a classic, like a 57 Chevy or something like that. This is a bike! Feels like a bike, sounds like a bike, performs like a bike, satisfies unlike any other bike!
